Today was my first
AFES AIM (Australian Institute of Ministry) day. It was held in the
Christians in the Media church in Annandale which is probably the funkiest church building I have ever seen. It's an old brick-and-stained-glass-window affair that's been turned into a very flexible and modern space on the inside. (See
here and
here for snapshots.) All the wooden floorboards have been polished and stained black, the walls have been painted and the name plaques removed, and strategic lighting has been put in.
The church hall had been set up with round tables and chairs. Richard spoke on Hebrews 1-2:4 which was a good reminder of how we can never go past Jesus in determining what God has said. Peter Bolt spoke on the gospel which, even though I know and love, I still have questions about. (Don't feel like sharing them now.) We had Thai food for lunch and spent the afternoon brainstorming stuff for tertiary evangelism.
I was also able to catch up with Matt from Christians in the Media, Richard B who used to work with ECU a couple of years ago but is now out at Padstow, Gloria, who is now working with Cumberland, and UNSW staffworkers Clive, Dave and Chris. It was lovely to see UNSW people there because normally they do their own thing and don't come to things like this.
The day finished at the respectable time of 3:30 and we drove back to Wollongong, whereupon I spent an hour looking at Bible passages with Little Rach for Sleepover, then went home to cook, watch
Spriggan (which was pretty ordinary) and go online.

Yeah, that building is really cool, I love the juxtaposition of the old and the ultra-trendy…
