Bye bye great aunt-in-law

Tuesday, 25 March, 2003

Yesterday I received a brief email from my dad telling me that his sister's husband's mother had passed away over the weekend. She was 102 years old and of sound mind. Last time I saw her (May last year), she was of sound body too with a great appetite for the banquet we were about to consume! I can't imagine being that old. When she was born, it was 1901 and a new century was beginning. I wonder what thought of the century she lived through—a century filled with more war and bloodshed than any other before it. She and I didn't speak the same language and I only saw her every now and then. I guess I'll never know.
