It's hard to believe that we're approaching the end of our second week in our new house. I think I'm slowly getting used to it—and getting used to living in Sydney again.
Random thoughts about it all:
- I'm now cooking with gas! This means I need to learn how to use lighters ...
- Sydney drivers are so aggressive and rude: “Don't honk at me just because I'm a P-plater! There's no rule that I have to stay in the left lane. Especially when the speed limit is 70 kph. I probably drive better than you with all the training I've had!!!” Because of them, our car insurance has gone up by $200. I hope I don't remember how to act like them.
- In Wollongong we had no television reception (but we did have a television). Now we're in a house with three TVs plus a computer that can play TV.
- In Wollongong, everyone and everything was just a 5-15 min drive away. In Sydney, everyone and everything is a 20-60 min drive away.
- Hurstville is starting to look like Hong Kong. At least they serve real Chinese food there—none of that Australianised stuff.
- I've seen my family now more times in the past week than I have all year. Which shouldn't be surprising given that my mum is two blocks down the road, my dad, stepmother and brother are two streets away and my stepsister and her family are also in the neighbourhood.
- I went into Coles the other day but Denise wasn't working.
- I'd forgotten what a madhouse Miranda Fair is. Especially during sale time.
- We still have boxes to unpack but there are storage issues here. I think I'm going to have to put more stuff in Ben's parents' garage—I'll have to work out what I don't need. But at the moment I feel little motivation to get organised ...
- I've learnt how to knit socks (mine look more like the ones in the second picture).
- Maybe I've forgotten how to rest?

Watch out! Knitting socks can become addictive. Lots of helpful hints, patterns, etc and a forum on the socknitters’ pages.
