Greek Week 3

Tuesday, 22 February, 2005

I'm still not feeling 100% so I politely excused myself from staff meeting and tonight's training at church to battle the beginning of rush hour traffic on my way home. Today we learnt about adjectives, demonstratives and personal pronouns which are in themselves not very troublesome, aside from the odd exception in the female gender and the neuter gender nominative and accusative case. Bill played us “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Rufus Xavier Sarsparilla” (which was about pronouns):

You see a pronoun was made to take the place of a noun,
'Cause saying all those nouns over and over
Can really wear you down.

Which reminds me, I forgot to record for posterity my favourite Grammar Rock song—“The Tale of Mr Morton” which includes the delicious lines,

Mister Morton is the subject of the
sentence and what the predicate says,
he does.

but perhaps are more amusing in their context.

Also today Lesley Ramsay talked to us about child protection and what the Sydney Anglican Diocese's regulations are. Reporting is not mandatory for clergy however Lesley's opinion is that we should act as if it should be. She gave us an example from her own experience of an instance when she had to report something and it just made me so sad to hear it—that child abuse (particularly sexual abuse) is still occurring today.

Third years have now joined us and the dining room was chockers at lunchtime. We were able to say hello to old friends and catch up with them. After lunch we did an hour of study with Tho and I feel like I'm getting slightly better at translation. Then we decided to sample the MAC afternoon tea (yummy biscuits!!) I've been told to never refuse an invitation to dine at MAC for dinner because it is definitely worth it.

I'm now making this poncho out of Zodiac Panda yarn but unfortunately I only have 6 balls of the stuff (the pattern says you need 7) and I'm using 5.5mm needles, not 6. I might have to pull the whole thing out—we'll see.

Here is another easy-looking pattern for a poncho.

I’m excited about starting Latin classes next week.

Thanks Deb! I might try that one after the one I’m doing. Are you going to make one?

Let us know how Latin goes.

I start Latin next Tuesday evening. I am going to pretend that I’m at theological college too.

I am finishing off a green velvety scarf at the moment, and then perhaps attempt something on a grander scale.
