Hitting the Fair

Saturday, 26 March, 2005

Never go to Westfield Miranda in the middle of the day on a Saturday; you will never find a park. Or you will do what I did and spend half an hour driving aimlessly around on the roof, following other cars driving just as aimlessly amongst the hoards of motor vehicles whose owners were smart enough to get there early. Luckily, I spotted a lady who was leaving so I got her spot.

I probably wouldn't have ventured to Miranda at all except I needed a combination of clothes, wrapping paper and groceries and I knew I'd never be able to get them all in the same place if I went elsewhere. And it's been a while since I've wandered around Miranda and, from time to time, I like wandering around places—window-shopping, etc.

I have to say I actually like this season's fashion. It makes me think of the way some Arts students dress (which makes me wonder how the Arts students are going to dress now that their style is mainstream). I like the faux fur, I like the velvets, I like the drippy jewellery (which I would never wear myself), the floating scarves, the dusky pinks and the grey-greens, the ponchos, the wraps, the soft undulating curls that I will never have—I especially like how feminine and elegant everything looks. But I have to say, I don't like the Argyle sweaters. Not even to play tennis at Oxford. And I have to say that I don't understand why this range is for winter. How on earth do you stay warm in such apparel?? I know if I went out on the street in such togs, I'd FREEZE!

So I marched into Target and came out with lots of polar fleece for me and Ben (much cheaper than Kathmandu, even when they're on sale). I also visited Lincraft and realised that I won't be able to finish my current project so I've decided to pull it out, do something else with the wool and start another (bought enough wool this time so I'm pretty much guaranteed of finishing this one!) I got my wrapping paper and fruit & vegies for the week but unfortunately made the decision not to buy rice because I didn't think I could get it to the car (I usually buy it 10kg at a time). This was a tad unfortunate because we ran out when I came to make dinner. Oh well!

I still like argyle vests!!! Although I find it a bit disturbing they are in fashion cos I’ve been looking for them for many years.. I don’t like how some are really weird and wacky looking, ... didn’t realise sthey were int hat popular ...until I went shopping yesterday and saw them in weird and wonderful flavours.

mine has pink and green if that helps. *sighs*

I quite enjoy looking at the pretty clothes at Anthropologie for similar reasons, I think.

Oh dear, I didn’t meant to offend you! It’s okay for you to like Argyle sweaters—you probably see some sort of beauty in them that I don’t.

Yes, I know the shops are shut tomorrow; going to have to brave the traffic on Monday to get some more rice! ;P

Oh wow, Deb, I love this one.

Which reminds me, I still need to get my dress from the FEVA art exhibition ...

Don’t speak to Matthew or I about the Fair. Didn’t quite get to 60mins. But we drove around, and around, and around, and around the car park at Miranda (Un)Fair yesterday. Its an interesting look at human nature wink

We thought it would be simpler than catching the train.. hmm..

nah trains are a total hole down there. i tried that once. its like every 30mins or hour!!!

still car is better. but easter saturday anywhere is a nightmare. people in southgate couldn’t get a park either… and apparently the queues in kmart ( where they had 15% off everything) went all the way to the back of the store. now that’s scary!!

its okay karen, i’m not offended….... how about a fractal patterned vest? :Þ
okay i’m just joking. smile

Dunc: You were in the Fair same time as me??? Wow!

Duncan: and what do I (and Guan) have to do with Miranda Fair anyhoo?

Karen: We went and saw miss congeliality 2. Hm wasn’t brilliant, but wasn’t quite terrible either. And unsuccessfully tried to buy some stuff too.

Haoran: grin. Not a lot really.
