Hello! I'm back! Did you miss me?
Thank you to all the lovely people who took the time to email/message when we were migrating servers and my blog went down for about a month because poor old Movable Type wasn't working. Things aren't completely 100% operational yet but they soon will be (fingers crossed!)
So what's been happening over the last month?
- My mum gave a very interesting seminar on surveillance as part of the School of Media and Communications seminar series. Then she and I went out and had a yummy dinner together.
- I went to Miriam's Nutrimetics hen's night and we pampered each other. I learnt how to do face massages.
- The rehearsal for the music for Duncan and Fi's wedding went much better than I expected, though we were missing our guitar player (who was in India) and we still needed to do quite a bit of work.
- I started seeing the same counsellor as Ben. We've had one session with me and Ben together but most of the time we see her separately. I have to agree with Ben; she's very good. But the stuff we talk about makes me feel sad.
- Pearl Jam comes to town but Ben is too stuffed to go to Sydney Olympic Park to hang around outside the stadium to listen so we stay home and watch television. Meanwhile during the week, other people we know go off and enjoy U2.
- I give Elsie MM books for her birthday.
- AFES (and therefore Bec and Stacie) move into the office next door.
- Fish comes to town and we go to gawk at comics, then workshop his graphic novel over coffee.
- The lady I used to read the Bible with at UNSW (and who wasn't a Christian then) got baptised.
- Ben starts his Moore College exams.
- I go to work for Greg, pick up Duncan and Fiona's wedding present, go to counselling, get stuck in traffic, nearly run out of petrol, and go and have coffee with Jo at BerkelouW's (where we workshop her story and talk about writing and ministry over hot chocolate and chai tea; is there any better way to spend an afternoon?) all in one day.
- Even though I am completely exhausted, I go along to the last PEC Women's Fellowship meeting for the year where we have a heavenly banquet outside in Lara's backyard (yummy food!) and listen to her talk about the heavenly banquet in Luke 14. I go home before they break out the chocolate fountain for supper.
- I help Elsie all afternoon the day of her supporters' afternoon tea and expose her to The Twilight Singers. (NB: During this period, The Twilight Singers enter heavy rotation on my MP3 player. Them and Bobby Flynn and the Omega III. How awesome is it that Bobby has a MySpace page and you can download for his songs, including the enchanting “The Boy Had Trouble”!)
- Ben and I watch Luther together (the thinking being that it counted as study since his Church History 2 exam was on the Reformation).
- Introducing God is on again at my place, and we start the first of “The Difference Jesus Makes” weekend away talks.
- I finish Teaching Little Ones (WOOHOOO!!! YAY!!!! HUZZAH!!!). In the absence of balloons, streamers and my very own ticker tape parade, I treat myself by going home early.
- Ben finishes his Moore College exams. (<ticker tape parade>WOOHOOO!!! YAY!!!! HUZZAH!!!</ticker tape parade>.) He says that if the examiners are nice to him with that particular Old Testament 2 exam, he's passed second year.
- Miriam and Phil get married in the cathedral (this was yesterday). We had music rehearsal from 12 pm, with the occasional tourist wandering in to listen. One of the vergers came over to tell us that some of them were trying to have some devotional time and could we please keep it down? “We're having a music rehearsal for a wedding this afternoon,” says the guy who's our coordinator for the day. “I know,” she says, and moves on. (By the way, wedding is lovely, I stuff up in the second song but the item at the signing of the register goes off just about flawlessly. And I got to catch up with lots of lovely people, including a number of Wollongong ex-students.)
Feel caught up? Good. On with the show.

Nice to read again from you Karen! I’ve missed your blog - but seeing you in person at Elsie’s was good!
Re: verger comment. Doesn’t really surprise me!
Hmm, just found out something else that’s wrong with my blog: I’m not getting comments via email anymore. Grr ...
