I've been having a strange week. The long weekend was nice in that I got a lot of stuff done for college and ticked off many non-college items on my To Do list (like going for a walk!) however I probably should have devoted a bit more time to resting. I was in a very strange I-don't-want-to-be-here mood on Tuesday and did stupid things while driving (like turning right despite there being a red right arrow against me [there was no traffic though] and not leaving enough leeway when changing lanes). One thing I hate about Sydney is the way that driving lanes often become parking lanes. I can understand why most people turn into dedicated middle-laners.
Anyway, I've come to realise something about college. I understood that the purpose is not to get amazingly great marks and that we are here to know God better and serve each other as the body of Christ. But it only became clear to me a couple of weeks ago when I was interviewing a 2nd year student for Societas that college is really about preparing you for a life of ministry in the future—particularly in terms of the Great Juggling Act. There will always be competing demands on our time and a million different options which are all good things to take up. But we need to learn to priotise—to choose one thing over the other for better for worse—to keep the whole of our lives in balance so that we make time for work/church/family/friends/God/growing in godliness/rest, etc.—without letting any particular area of our life overwhelm the others (while at the same time dealing with the unforeseen and the tragic).
This makes me feel a little less guilty about not doing all my readings and being behind in some things. There is no way one individual could do it all without cost to other areas of life. So hopefully college will make me into a wiser and better planner. Here's hoping.

Hey Karen,
A very helpful thing to learn, I would have said.
Although I think different people learn that at different times.
(Just BTW, I don’t know if you’re in the habit of post-editing blogs, but you may want to take a quick look here. There’s about 500% more typos than I would normally see in a normal Karen blog.)
500%??? I found two!
