And continuing ...
Matt is Duncan's brother, and I probably met him one time when I was over at their parents' place. I think I became better friends with him over the course of many games of Emperor Scum and much watching of movies, etc.
Matt and Evelyn are senior staffworkers for Wollongong ECU, and their blog is mainly photos of their kids and family gatherings. It's kind of nice seeing the little tykes growing up in digital form.
Matt T was an MTS-er at UNSW when I was doing my Honours year (at least, I think it was my Honours year ... it was 2000 anyway). I remember he was manning the stall for CBS and I signed up for faculty Bible study but told them I could only do lunchtimes because I worked. I was a bit annoyed that they never contacted me but in the end it all worked out and I was able to attend one (I think it was the one with Elsie, Ben B, Matt B, John B [otherwise known as Bean] and Sarah and I forget who else ... that was a great Bible study group ...) I haven't actually seen Matt for years. His blog is hysterical though.
Paul was Chris B's friend and he kept popping up at UNSW (even though he went to UWS ... I forget which one). I kept seeing him at things and then one day he emailed me and told me he had a blog. He also came along to Word by Word once or twice. Haven't seen him in a while ... he's one of those people who got married and then dropped off the face of the earth! ;P
Pete is a UNSW SPUB-er (Staff Postgraduate University Bible Study). He was one of the original Opinionated bloggers.
I think Rachel started reading me first. For a time, she was reviewing “Stars of the southern hemisphere” for Blogs4God. She's also one of those famous Christian bloggers—she's been blogging for longer than me, she knows heaps more about web design (she designed Problogger for Darren Rowse), and she thinks about technology and social networking in an engaging and accessible way. She also used to blog about questions like “What is church?” and living the authentic Christian life, and it's a little sad that the focus of her blogging has shifted, but she continues to be interesting to read. Rachel lives in New Zealand and I've never met her.
Little Rachel (or “Little”, as she prefers to be called—she's called that because she used to live in a house with another Rachel) was a Creative Writing/Arts student at the University of Wollongong. I met her during my time as MTS, and in my second year, we used to meet up together to read the Bible. We also read through J.I. Packer's Knowing God together which was terrific. Little is very funny and she writes well.
Bec works next door at AFES. She edits Salt (though I think that might have changed now that Mark's come on board ...) and she started asking me to write things and send her photos. One year I even took the initiative to interview some students about NTE and snap photos of them (I think that was 2004). She must have started reaidng my blog because I always include the URL at the bottom of my emails. I learned about her blog when she commented on my mine. She's a Neil Gaiman fan and a writer (though she's never been able to come to Word by Word) and she recently won a fellowship to go stay at Varuna (the writers' retreat) and finish her novel.
