Rosey said she wanted a hat. I started knitting a different one for her and then she gave me some yarn she had bought for something but had now decided she wasn't going to use. I immediately thought of this pattern (Jan knitted it once and she said it was easy). Odessa was far more interesting than the hat I was knitting so I stopped the other project and started this one. The beads—clear, light pearly pink, clear pink and dark pearly pink) went quite well with the colour. The only problem was having to restring them every time I hit a knot.

Rosey said she wore it today and got lots of nice comments—including “Where can I buy one of those?”

Looks good. I made about 6-7 last year, not all with beads. Some of theh beads I used had a large hole, so I didn’t string them first but used a fine crochet hook to pull wool through at each placement. Worked well.
I’m currently making another hat for one DIL. From Knitty but don’t have reference here at the moment. It has seven hexagons sewn together, then pick up stitches and do band.
Am using Noro which is darned expensive, but it’s for her birthday. I think Patons Jet would work well too and it’s soft and cosy with the alpaca in it.
Very very cool. I so wish I could knit! (I have started many scarves and never finished any…) Finding yummy hats is increasingly difficult, so I totally understand someone wanting to buy one of these.
(finally found a cloche-shaped hat while in Katoomba that actually fits (I have a big head) so am excited about the prospect of it getting properly cold so I can wear it)
Ooh, I love cloches, Bec! What kind of cloche is it?
well…it’s not reeeeally a cloche, but the closest I could get. It’s black and sleek and fuzzy, with wire in the very slight brim so that it stands properly, and a big bow at the back…sounds a bit naff described like that, but I really like it. I’ll bring it in to show you sometime.
but it looks good with my new haircut.
That is a truly gorgeous hat! Karen, you’re simply amazing
