Moore College has thoughtfully provided two days off for their students to recover from mission. I had contemplated going to their Alumni & Friends day but then decided it would probably be better to spend some time with Ben as we haven't had much time together lately.
So we slept in (and the extended amount of sleep made me very chirpy!) and caught the bus to Newtown to have breakfast (at 12 pm!) at Phuze in Newtown. They used to have all these different kinds of breakfasts for about $7-8 and now the menu's changed a little but they've still got the Big Breakfast, chai tea and fruit frappes. We ate ourselves silly and then went walking around Newtown. We bought a shoe rack with wheels from the discount store to tidy up the shoes in our front hall. And we also went and did one of the things that Ben likes best—checking out the music stores. Newtown certainly has its fair share of them and they're all monosyllabic:—SO, HUM, Fish and Egg. The latter had some particularly fine gems—Bic Runga, Neil Finn, Thirsty Merc, Killing Heidi and you could get five for $20.
We also picked up a free copy of Brag and discovered that Pearl Jam will be doing a show in Sydney on 7 November. Tickets through Ticketek are close to $100 (ouch!) Ben seems a bit ambivalent about going which I thought was strange given that he once said that if he had to give away all his CDs except for one band, it would be Pearl Jam.
We caught the train to the city and walked from Town Hall. On the way, of course, we got distracted by JB HiFi (where I found Spellbound [the Hitchcock film, not the documentary about Spelling Bees] for $8 and splurged on Pride and Prejudice [Keira Knightley version] and The House of Flying Daggers) and Dirt Cheap CDs (I refused to go in). I also got a much-needed new lip balm from The Body Shop (I wanted coconut but it was twice the price of mango and peach!).
We walked to Martin Place and found the Lindt café/shop at Martin Place (here's a review of the food) and we both had a hot chocolate (they give you the liquid chocolate and frothy milk and you pour the mixture you want yourself). Ben also had some sweet biccies. I have to say that it's definitely not as good as Koko Black.
And then we caught the bus home.
