- I now have two Sunday school teachers to replace the ones who quit. They are both guys which is interesting because now the team is comprised of three boys and me and I have the most experience out of all of them.
- I am trying to organise a sleepover for the Arts and Creative Arts girls. To do this, I am first trying to organise a meeting for all the Arts and Creative Arts girl leaders. Getting seven people in the same room at the same time is impossible so we are having two meetings. I have a venue and a date (which, hopefully, I will be able to keep my leave for) but not a topic. Well, that's not strictly true; I do have a topic but I want to hear their suggestions first and figure out whether my topic would be a good thing to do or not. Something else might be better.
- Ben's medication has not been working so he's started taking a stronger dose. We have started going to some workshops on depression at Wollongong Baptist Church which are running for the next four weeks. They have been quite helpful. I particularly liked the diagram showing what happens with the synapses and the chemicals and the electrical impulses. It helped me understand what was going on biologically a lot more and why you just can't say to a depressed person, “Snap out of it!”
- Here are my thoughts on the theology of shopping. The article needs some tweaking and re-drafting but it essentially says most of the things I wanted to say on the topic.

- God has graciously and generously provided me a way out of my dead-end boring job but I cannot say anything more about it. Yet.
- On Friday evening I caught the train up to Sydney, walked through Central, got side-tracked by the book basement (I got several Diana Wynne Jones books for $3 each!!! I'm growing to love her work), had dinner at Thai Riffic Newtown with some old school friends and a bunch of people I didn't know for Rachael's birthday and stayed over at Louise's house.
- On Saturday I went to the Equip Women conference at the Town Hall. It was awesome! I saw so many people I knew—girls I hadn't seen in ages, girls I got to catch up with briefly, girls I'd been praying for and who had been praying for me. The teaching was fantastic (on 2 Corinthians 10-13), the music was wonderful and the whole day was just a delight. I was particularly struck by Paul's experiences—how much he struggled as an apostle to the Gentiles to present everyone mature in Christ and how the Corinthians resisted and went astray, following after false apostles and scorning Paul because he wasn't a very impressive person. It was encouraging to read those chapters where Paul boasts in his weaknesses and think about how they applied to my own life in ministry. The afternoon elective was also superb; I went to the one where Ainsley Poulos talked about hospitality. Would like to blog my notes some time in the future when (and if) I get time.
- I stepped into Galaxy Bookshop briefly during the conference's lunchbreak and discovered that Neal Stephenson has released his second book in the Baroque Cycle, Robin McKinley's Sunshine is still in hardcover and Guy Gavriel Kay has a new epic—Last Light of the Sun—which I cannot wait to devour but, nevertheless, will wait. Interestingly, this time he's writing about the Vikings.
- In the Bible it says that Jesse had 8 sons however in 1 Chronicles 2:13-15 it only lists 7: Eliab, Abinadab, Shimea, Nethanel, Raddai, Ozem and David. And David was definitely the eighth son according to 1 Samuel 16:10. Artistic license or is it that the Biblical authors did not know how to count?

Maybe one of the younger sons (but older than David) died a while after the selection process described in 1 Samuel 16. Or, maybe one of the eight sons of the 1 Samuel account was the product of a Levirate (sp?) marriage and was counted as Jesse’s son in that version, but not as Jesse’s son in the 1 Chronicles version.
