Sleep to dream

Monday, 05 November, 2007

I realise I'm having sleep temperature issues at the moment (it's too hot with the doona and too cold with the blanket) but still, it's disturbing even for me when I dream (like I dreamt last night/early this morning) about this horde of children who were involved in one of those cults that believe that aliens will come rescue them and bear them away into eternal paradise—who had killed the people upstairs and left them so that the blood trickled down the steps—who were seeking to brainwash people like me who sought to reach out to them, crowding around me with their blankets and stuffed toys—and who, once their building was targeted by a crowd of concerned adults like me (who were worried about how much time they had spent alone without adult supervision, and who were seeking to persuade them out of this madness), began to pelt the crowd with rocks as big as your fist, and then we learned that some of their number had sprouted wings and had learned to fly—and that they had also, in their solitude, studied enough to develop the technology for a flying monorail train which hovered above us before dropping the bomb—the crowd scatters in slow motion and I find myself being frantically grateful for my husband who loves me so much, he shields me from the rocks with his own body and grabs my hand, Titanic-style, and we race towards the edge of the carpark and jump off the side of the cliff, grabbing at balcony railings on the way down, down and down ...

I hate it how so many of my nightmares involve falling and tall buildings. And children.

I’ve had some rather disturbing dreams lately.  They’re very unsettling and not at all conducive to feeling as though you’ve had a good night’s sleep!  Hope you’re not too tired today.

Nightmares suck. I hate the ones where I wake up and some of the content it’s based on is true (e.g. childhood terror). They’re the worst.
