The Last Day of My Holidays

Sunday, 04 January, 2004

So it's the last day of my holidays and I made sure that I rose before 9, though the average has been 10 over this past week and a half. Though I have spent most of my time writing/researching/procrastinating all for the sake of Issue 08, I still have had time to engage in my favourite pastimes of movie-watching and book-reading (finished Charmed Life today—my first Diana Wynne Jones novel!) We had friends over for dinner last night and made fresh Vietnamese spring rolls. That was a lot of fun and a cool summer alternative to salads (which I'm not a big fan of anyway). My cousin, his wife and their baby daughter dropped by for a visit in the afternoon which was nice. The day before we were invited out for lunch by the family whose house we will be taking care of while they're away. They were trying to work out why some of their CD-ROMS wouldn't work on their new computer so we helped them with that. I've spent my last day reading, chatting with a school friend who is back briefly from England, catching up on my blogreading and doing the laundry (oops! forgetting about the laundry!). This evening I will make Shepherd's Pie (not with actual shepherds) and we will go to 6 o'clock church which meets for four Sundays over the New Year/January period because a lot of people go on holidays and it's easier to combine the services at 5 and 7. I like 6 o'clock church with its demographic blend of families and young people. I realised a couple of Sundays ago that I'm beginning to feel more comfortable at church. It's always hard with a new church and we've only been at St. Michael's for a year but I think I'm getting there. Slowly. I have vague aspirations to write some more stuff but maybe later. Maybe. Tomorrow it's back to work.

It takes a year to feel comfortable?

Richard says it takes two years to feel truly settled.

Hurrah for DWJ! Isn’t Chrestomanci wonderful?

He’s pretty cool. I like the Englishness about the books.
