To market, to market

Monday, 22 January, 2007

Well, for various reasons, another weekend in Jamberoo with my friends from school was out of the question so I tried to arrange for them all to come to my place instead. Ben very generously went to his parents' place but in the end, only two of my friends were able to make it and only one of them stayed over and that was just for the Saturday night. I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed, but I still had a good time anyway. Friday was Liwen's birthday and we went to Newtown for Thai. Mel and I treated her to dinner. Then, because Mel hadn't seen it, we decided to go see Casino Royale again. The plot made more sense to me the second time around.

On Saturday Mel and Liwen came back at around noon and I made them lunch (pasta salad with pesto, sundried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and fresh basil). Then, because they had never been before (even though they both grew up in Sydney), we went to the Paddington Markets and spent a very enjoyable couple of hours shopping. I bought a new leather? plastic? something? necklace for my star which had completely worn through my old one (only $2!), a dress, a birthday present for a family member, and wedding presents for Cameron and Yvonne, and Amanda and Simon. We were pretty tired by the end of the afternoon but I knew I had to get dinner started, otherwise we'd be eating way too late. So my friends watched So You Think You Can dance? while I gingerly (heheh) had a go at making Francis' Canton province poached ginger chicken from the International Christmas Feast. (Elsie, this is your reminder to download the recipes.) This is how it turned out:

I was rather proud of myself as I don't really regard myself as being a very good cook and I normally feel like such a fraud in the kitchen. And my guests enjoyed it as well.

We spent the evening watching the Golden Globes (mostly on fast forward, though wasn't Hugh Laurie's acceptance speech a scream!) Mel had to leave soon after that but Liwen and I stayed up and she let me subject her to Freaky Friday. We went to bed at around 2 in the morning.

Breakfast muesli and a bit of fruit, and then some Black Books (courtesy of Emma T who has very kindly lent me Series 1, 2 and 3!). She had to go after lunch and then I spent the rest of the afternoon meeting the Queenslanders who have just moved in downstairs and next door.

Today I attacked the MTS handbook once again, had lunch with Elsie and then dinner with the Beilharzs. We played Uno after dinner, and out of eight games, I won six. Yay me!

Hugh Laurie was great! And Helen Mirren was beautiful. Forget looking like her when I’m her age - I’d like to look like her now!

Thanks for the reminder ^_^
