Top 10 Soundtracks

Thursday, 08 July, 2004

This is for Joyce and Duncan who were interested to know. Again, in no particular order:

  1. The Power of One (Hans Zimmer)
  2. I am Sam (Various—it's full of Beatles covers and my favourite one is “Julia”)
  3. Oscar and Lucinda (Thomas Newman)
  4. Ocean's Eleven (David Holmes)
  5. La Double Vie de Véronique (Zbigniew Preisner)
  6. Sneakers (James Horner)
  7. The Truman Show (Burkhard Dallwitz and Philip Glass)
  8. The Piano (Michael Nyman)
  9. A Little Princess (Patrick Doyle)
  10. A Room with a View (Richard Robbins)

Lately, I've really been enjoying the soundtrack to Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex by Yoko Kanno (on loan from Little Rachel. Yoko is pretty talented; she also did the soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop. I wish I could write music like that.

I like number three too! wink

I watched The Piano the other night and I didn’t like it much. I felt sorry for Sam Neill’s character, even though I wasn’t supposed to.

I think you’re supposed to feel sorry for him. I wasn’t a big fan of the movie either but the music is wonderful and very simple (which means I can play it! Well most of it, anyway). I read a very interesting essay on Bluebeard and The Piano—totally unintentional in the minds of Jane Campion & co. but still significant nonetheless.

I’m glad you like number three! smile
