The night before my birthday we ...
... had dinner with my father and stepmother in a restaurant called Wasavie in Paddington which has a really cool business card. They serve modern Japanese cuisine which was quite tasty. We sat at a long wooden communal eating table with everyone else and there were ice buckets built into holes in the middle in which to put wine.
On my birthday I ...
- hosted a defenestration party at our house and made chicken risotto (the cheating way) for lunch. We used our outdoor furniture for the first time and sat and chatted and occasionally threw things out of the second storey bathroom window. We have now realised that you can't hear the phone when you're outside; three people called and left messages on our answering machine while we were eating lunch. One of them called our back-fence neighbour who told her that we were home and took her cordless phone and handed it to us over the fence so that Ben could take the call;
- went to give blood and passed the haemoglobin count (119!) Miriam and Pakman went with me. Miriam, unfortunately, didn't pass but she was given a portable radio (if you donate 3 times in one year, they give you a little portable radio with headphones as a way of saying thanks). It was Pakman's first time giving blood and they gave him a special sticker to stick on his shirt advertising the fact. He gave all 470ml in 6 minutes and looked so pale afterwards the nurses ordered him to lie down again;
- did my tax return for 2003, and Ben's too. I hate doing tax but I like getting the return back!! It's like all this extra money that you weren't expecting to have and it's fun thinking up nice things to do with it. Ben's committed his towards FEVA;
- watched Memento and The Big Lebowski (Simon's favourite movie) with Ben. Both were quite unsatisfying, though I was still thinking heaps about Memento later, even though its nihilist conclusion rather frustrated me.
For my birthday I was given ...
Today I'm ...
- having lunch with some friends from Sydney and Wollongong at a Thai restaurant;
- going to see Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle;
- making dinner for the Arts Bible Study leaders;
- packing for Mid Year Conference;
- doing the laundry and praying it doesn't rain!
