This session, Mission is happening in Weeks 2, 3 and 4. To give us a foretaste of what it's going to be like, Rick Lewers came down and spoke at ECU on Tuesday and Wednesday. He also attended our staff meeting and talked about his experiences of moving from being a church evangelist to a rector to an itinerant preacher. At the end of the afternoon, he said to us, “It's important to do the things that fill our cup so that we are not completely drained by the things that empty it.” He was talking about things in which we find satisfaction and fulfillment. For him it was evangelism and meeting new people. For Ben, it's preaching, web design and occasionally writing.
For me I think it's writing, reading and web design. I like meeting people and I think I am developing better people skills as MTS constantly throws me into new situations where I'm pushed to talk to complete strangers. But I find people quite draining and every now and then I just want to go away and be alone. I get restless when I feel like being creative and there's no outlet. Even though I might be doing tonnes of stuff, I don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything when I can't get to the things on my To Do list which I find more enjoyable. It was good to have that reminder from Rick that these things are important and I shouldn't feel guilty for wanting to do them more than the other stuff that ministry demands. I know I'm not an evangelist or a people person like he is and that's okay.

Great entry. That is such a crucial question! I’ve never thought of it before. Might end up being an entry in my own blog. Thanks for sharing!
